Dear Bike Show Competitors,

I’d like to take this opportunity to cordially extend an invitation for you to come and compete in the 2010 Thunder in the Rockies Bike Fest Custom Motorcycle Show. With our move from using the facilities of the Larimer County Fairgrounds, to keeping all the fun, excitement and activities more concentrated in and around Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson, I believe we’ve created an even better atmosphere for your pride and joy to be admired in.

Along with these changes comes a new venue for the bike show, as we’ll be occupying the beautiful showroom at L2 Motors for the first time. It’s a bright, modern space with floor to ceiling glass, a surplus of natural light and great views of the majestic Rocky Mountains. It’s the kind of facility that will put any bike in its best light.

As a long-time bike show competitor myself, I also wanted to implement a number of changes in how we chose our winners, and the show categories we offered to make it a more enjoyable event for everyone. With that in mind we’ve installed a peer judging system for any category with five or more entries. Simply put, you and the other competitors in your class will be asked to examine and rank the bikes in your class, and the results of these secret ballots will determine the winners. It only makes sense that someone who’s put their blood, sweat and tears into doing a meticulous restoration in the antique class, or a mind-bending wide tire chopper in the full custom class could be a better authority on that style of bike, and the details needed to make a show winner, than any one judge or judges ever could be. We will have a judging panel of industry experts in place for any classes smaller than five competitors, and in the event of any necessary tie-breakers.

It’s a system many of the top shows across the country, including the L.A. Calendar Motorcycle Show and the AMD World Championships of Custom Bike Building in Sturgis, have adopted and I hope the admiration and approval of your peers will only add to the sense of achievement for our winners.

Put it all together with thousands of dollars in prize money, our trophy presentation at the Thunder Mountain Amphitheatre just before Motley Crue front man Vince Neil takes the stage, and we’re confident this will be the very best bike show in Thunder in the Rockies history.

Hope to see you there,

Justin Schilling
